Hamilton Parkour Workshops
Posted by DPudds on Monday 26th of April 2010 12:12:04 AM.

The Parkour workshops running in Hamilton at Hamilton City Gymnastics are over for the term.
Image

Barnz and Damien, along with Tim and Sam would like to extend a big thanks to all the people who have attended the workshops over the past few months. There were good turn outs (15+) throughout the term with varying skill levels/genders present. A lot of potential is coming through!

The deal with the gym will be revisited and notification will be sent out if/when the workshops resume next term.

Participants in the workshops should expect to receive a questionnaire in their emails during the term break. Please take the time to fill it out.

Thanks again!

Auckland Jam 2010 :: 24th April
Posted by Ethan on Thursday 04th of March 2010 02:11:11 AM.

Where : Quay Park (off Mahuhu Crescent)
When : Saturday 24th April at 11:00am

This is the first Family Jam in what I hope will be an annual event in Auckland, getting bigger and bigger with every year.
The point of this event is to bring everybody together in the community to what has in the past been diminished through labels and stereotypes, and show everybody that in the end we're all just practising movement in one form or another.

Also, bring some change, as we will be heading over to Devonport to end the jam at the end of the day

If anybody needs to know anything at all, travel, how to get to Quay Park etc
Just give me a call or a text!

Hope to see everybody there for what will be a huge step for the Auckland Movement Community!

HamJam 2009
Posted by Sam on Tuesday 03rd of November 2009 06:40:22 PM.

What: HamJam 2009
Where: Waikato University
When: Saturday 5th December
Why: Pancakes! (and parkour of course ;) )

Saturday is the main day for HamJam, so if you can't be in Hamilton for the whole weekend make sure you can be there on the Saturday. The actual start for the Hamilton gathering is 7pm Friday 4th December at the Uni Rec. Activities will conclude on the Sunday afternoon.

This began last year as a fairly laid back gathering to test the waters before the first national gathering in Wellington earlier this year. We are running HamJam again as a means of demonstrating to the NZ parkour community what we are all about in the Hamilton scene, and to provide an excuse for you all to visit us as one of the minor major centers of the country.

We intend to keep our casual approach to this gathering, as communal training is a great stress release at this time of year. There will also be a BBQ on the Saturday evening, and if you need a place to stay Damien has plenty of room - just be sure to get in touch with him before the event.

I would appreciate it if anyone attending could get in touch with me so that I know how many to cater for at the BBQ on the Saturday night. The BBQ (and pancakes) are a gift to you from us (the Hamilton traceurs) for making the effort to come and visit :D

All levels of ability are welcome, however no special attempt will be made to cater for beginners other than to get them joining in and being assisted by other traceurs along the way.

That's enough for now. All of the remaining details will be worked out as we go (there is a possibility of a gym session on the Friday evening for instance). We look forward to having you visit us!

The Death of One of us.
Posted by Dave on Saturday 10th of October 2009 01:52:24 PM.

It is with much regret that I inform you all we have had a death in the community.

Andrew Ellwood was taken from us in a tragic car accident last friday evening on his way home from parkour training.
A budding traceur, and an all round nice guy he was, taken too soon in life as he has only 18 years of age.
He did mention to me he was tired at training, and also that he was having trouble with a platau. we were going to go through some training this sunday, but unfortunately he will never have the chance to get over the platau.

It saddens me greatly as I have trained with andrew for around 3 years now, in which he went from someone who felt they were weak to a person who got stuck in and did the dreaded "conditioning"and had the confidence and knowledge of parkour to become a valued member of the community and a good friend. He will be sorely missed by our small but tight whangarei group, and condolences go out to his friends and family.

R.I.P Andrew, my training will be dedicated to you brother.

Generations in new video from Maori band Hui-a
Posted by Max on Thursday 20th of August 2009 03:27:13 PM.

Hui-a, and band with Maori ancestry based in London, have released a music video featuring members and students of Parkour Generations.

Image

From Parkour Generations:

Recently we shot a music video for the release of the debut EP from a groundbreaking new group named Hui-a, a pair of musicians of Maori ancestry who use traditional instruments and themes alongside the music of today to create a fusion of styles which results in a simply great sound. The video features team member Yao and a few of our Youth Academy students from London, and can be seen online now HERE. Well done to Aaron, Daniel and Matthew from the Youth Academy, and good luck to Hui-a with the EP.

Amazing to see this type of music on the other side of the world. If Hui-a is ever out this way, someone convince them to include New Zealand traceurs in any upcoming projects ;)

CryptoZoo
Posted by Max on Tuesday 12th of May 2009 01:59:55 PM.

CryptoZoo is a new game about chasing weird animals through a city lol. Cool thing is that this is in a small way inspired by NZ parkour! We had Jane McGonigal out with us for some parkour when she was in Wellington 8-).

Check out this video for some similarities to basic parkour, and also just to see people having fun with movement: http://cryptozoo.ning.com/video/video/s ... ideo%3A160

Who created CryptoZoo?

CryptoZoo is a non-commercial, indie game created by Jane McGonigal for the American Heart Association. The game is part of an AHA initiative in collaboration with the Institute for the Future.

What inspired the CryptoZoo game?

CryptoZoo is about inventing the future of physical activity, about making play and gaming a bigger part of how we take care of ourselves.

The American Heart Association in collaboration with Institute for the Future recognized that we can re-invent physical activity with the help of online games and social media. Games -– especially when they get you moving in the real world -- can be good for you, and the more we play together, the better.

CrytpoZoo is a proof-of-concept game, a way for us to show what physical activity could (and we think, should) be like in the future: more fun, more social, and better integrated with our everyday lives.

It would be awesome to get some events happening for this game in NZ ;). These sort of games are really the community makes up rules as the game evolves, so there could be all sorts of imaginative animals and routes we have to 'chase' that could be added to a parkour training session.

'Point B' = must watch documentary
Posted by Max on Saturday 04th of April 2009 02:19:25 AM.

"What is Parkour's Point B?"

A brilliant and accessible documentary has been released online. 'Point B' is well made and gives an overview of parkour covering areas such as the history, the philosophy and mind-set, the concept of flow, and also the controversies of competition, showmanship, commercialization and the media. In my opinion a must watch documentary for experienced traceurs, beginning traceurs, and anyone even interested in parkour! Get your mum to watch it and have a go as well :P

Earth Hour - Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm (local time)

"On March 28 you can VOTE EARTH by switching off your lights for one hour.
Or you can vote global warming by leaving your lights on.

The results of the election are being presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. We want one billion votes for Earth, to tell world leaders that we have to take action against global warming."

Keep Earth, and our playground, in good shape ;)
